What is your favorite Disney Princess Movie?
By: Olivia M. & Charlie
In our study we asked people “What is your favorite Disney Princess movie?” We surveyed the whole class population, they had to pick from Frozen, Moana, Tangled, Mulan, Snow White, Aladdin, and other. We decided to pick from the whole class instead of only taking a sample because we would get a better variety of results. The results were qualitative because because it was not a survey on numbers it was on names We did not choose to do a simple random sample, we used a whole population to avoid bias, error, and undercoverage. It is important to stay away from these things to have a better and more accurate survey. Avoiding having bias makes it less likely to have error.
Bias causes the results to go one way or the other and not have the best outcome possible. If you have a lot of error in your survey your results may be wrong and you may have to redo your survey. We did our study as a survey because it was the easiest way to go about getting this data. There was no way to observe what Disney princess people like and an experiment would have been hard to conduct. Our surveys level of measurement was nominal, the only one that does not deal with numbers.
The nominal level is when the variables are names and not numbers. There are three other levels that deal with only numbers of the variables; ordinal, interval, and ratio. There is no need for a control group because it is not an experiment, therefore, there is no placebo, and there is no need to have it be a double blind study. We didn’t need to do it as a double blinded study because it was just a survey so it doesn’t really have an affect on the answers. The confidentiality is not an issue. We have it open because we need to know who has answered and who hasn’t answered yet.
The process of collecting our data is to conduct a survey, send it to the class, wait for responses, then write down who answered and the answers to make sure you got everyone. The results we found from our survey were Moana and Tangled were most favored at 20%. Then Mulan was next at 16%, Frozen, Aladdin, and other were tied next at 12%. Snow White was least favored at 8% .There was one person who did not vote because they were absent. Therefore, I do believe that one person’s vote could have affected our data at least a little.
